The Journey of Building स्वशासन: From Vision to Reality

Embarking on the journey of creating a product that has the potential to revolutionize the automotive industry has been both exhilarating and challenging. My goal to develop an operating system for electric vehicles (EVs) that supports autonomous driving technology has taken me through a labyrinth of learning, innovation, setbacks, and growth. Here is a detailed account of my journey so far, covering every significant milestone, challenge, and achievement.


The Vision

The seed of this journey was planted with a clear vision: to build an EV operating system that enables seamless integration of autonomous driving technology. The ultimate goal is to sell the OS’s royalty to EV manufacturers, providing them with a robust, scalable, and innovative platform to accelerate the adoption of autonomous EVs.


The Initial Steps

Starting out, I had nothing but an idea and an unrelenting determination to bring it to life. To lay the foundation, I began by outlining a roadmap and preparing a pitch deck. These documents helped me articulate the vision, value proposition, and technical feasibility of the product. With no technical team or resources initially, I relied on extensive research and insights from industry leaders.


Building the Foundation


Market Research and Competition Analysis

Understanding the market was crucial. I analyzed competitors, including existing service providers, their offerings, and gaps in the market. This research underscored the importance of autonomous driving support, which became the product’s unique selling proposition.


Creating a Website

I developed a website on Wix to showcase the स्वशासन startup. It included key information about the product and its vision, along with a short form at the footer to collect voluntary user data. This step was pivotal in establishing an online presence and attracting initial interest.


Connecting with Industry Leaders and Investors


VC Meetings

1. InfoEdge Ventures: After sending an email seeking mentorship and funding, I received a response from Sanjeev Bikhchandani, who connected me with Chinmaya. Following a few rounds of discussions, I was directed to Sparsh for further exploration.


2. Indian VC Giant: One of India’s oldest and biggest venture capital firms responded to my outreach. This was a turning point, as I prepared for an intensive interview to pitch the product and discuss scalability.


3. 100Unicorns: I met with Dr. Apoorva Ranjan Sharma, Managing Director of 100Unicorns, to pitch my product. During this meeting, I sought resources like sensors and an electric car to facilitate piloting the OS.


Mentorship Outreach

I reached out to prominent figures in the startup ecosystem, including the President and CEO of Y Combinator and a renowned Indian investor known as the ‘Dronacharya of Startups.’ While funding was part of the discussions, mentorship took precedence as I sought to learn from their expertise.


Team Building and Resource Allocation


Talent Hunt

As the project gained traction, I initiated a talent hunt to build a team capable of transforming the vision into reality. This involved identifying individuals with expertise in autonomous systems, software development, and automotive technology.


Collaborations and Partnerships

I connected with the Associate Vice President of Tata Motors on LinkedIn to explore the possibility of integrating the स्वशासन into Tata’s upcoming EV models. This marked a significant step toward building industry partnerships.


Resource Challenges

One of the primary challenges was securing resources like test vehicles and advanced sensors for product development. This required constant networking, pitching, and collaboration.


Overcoming Challenges


Technical Barriers

Building स्वशासन is a technically complex endeavor, especially when aiming to integrate autonomous driving capabilities. To address this, I began learning AI tailored for automotive and AV technology. This self-paced learning journey has been pivotal in bridging the knowledge gap.


Time Management

Balancing multiple responsibilities—working on the product, managing a side gig, going to the gym, and reading—has been challenging. I’ve optimized my daily schedule to ensure consistent progress on स्वशासन while maintaining overall productivity.


Securing Mentorship and Resources

While many doors opened, not all conversations led to immediate results. Perseverance was key in following up with mentors and VCs to secure the necessary guidance and resources.


Achievements and Milestones


1. Website Launch: Successfully created an online presence with a professional website.

2. Investor Connections: initiated meaningful discussions with leading VCs and industry veterans.

3. Roadmap and Pitch Deck: Developed comprehensive documents to guide product development and attract stakeholders.

4. Building a Network: Established valuable connections with key players in the automotive and startup ecosystems.


The Road Ahead


Piloting the Product

The next major milestone is to pilot स्वशासन. This will involve testing its functionality in real-world scenarios, gathering feedback, and refining the product.


Scaling the Team

As the project progresses, I aim to onboard more experts in AI, software development, and automotive systems to accelerate development.


Securing Funding

Raising funds remains a priority. The focus is on acquiring investments that not only provide capital but also strategic mentorship to scale the product effectively.


The Ultimate Vision

The vision behind this journey is not just to create  स्वशासन but to be a driving force in the global transition to autonomous electric vehicles. By empowering manufacturers with cutting-edge technology, the स्वशासन will pave the way for a safer, more sustainable, and technologically advanced future.


This journey has been a blend of highs and lows, each contributing to the growth of both the product and myself as a founder. With every challenge faced and milestone achieved, I’m one step closer to turning this vision into reality. The road ahead is long, but the destination—a world transformed by autonomous EVs—is worth every effort.

Life at Urban Company!

 Every morning, as the clock strikes 10:30 a.m., I step into the bustling atmosphere of Urban Company, ready to embark on another day of challenges and opportunities. As a Business Development Associate in the AC category, my role revolves around identifying and meeting the surging demand for home services, particularly as the scorching summer heat sweeps across India. Join me as I provide a glimpse into my daily routine and the intricacies of my responsibilities at one of the largest platforms for home services.

The first order of business upon my arrival is to dive into the world of data, updating all SQL queries meticulously organized in Google Sheets. This task sets the stage for informed decision-making throughout the day, providing crucial insights into customer trends and preferences.

Next, armed with freshly updated data, I embark on the pivotal task of planning my day ahead. Crafting Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) serves as my guiding compass, allowing me to delineate my priorities and set deadlines for accomplishing tasks. With a clear roadmap in hand, I delve into the heart of my responsibilities within the AC category.

At the core of my daily endeavors lies the mission to ensure seamless operations and maximum efficiency for our company partners. This entails a multifaceted approach, ranging from resolving technical issues to optimizing partner engagement.

One of my primary responsibilities involves assisting company partners in restarting their IDs if they've encountered blockages due to short-term inactivity or rating downgrades. By swiftly addressing these issues, we uphold the continuity of service delivery, fostering trust and reliability among our partners and customers alike.

Furthermore, I spearhead initiatives to activate subscriptions for all company partners, empowering them with the tools and resources needed to thrive on our platform. Whether it's troubleshooting technical glitches or providing personalized support, I strive to equip our partners with the necessary means to excel in their endeavors.

Additionally, I ensure that active partners are seamlessly integrated into our system, addressing any discrepancies such as marking their calendars as on leave while still maintaining their active status. This meticulous attention to detail ensures the smooth functioning of our operations, bolstering our capacity to meet the ever-evolving demands of our clientele.

In essence, my role as a Business Development Associate at Urban Company transcends mere tasks; it embodies a commitment to excellence and a dedication to empowering our partners to flourish in the dynamic landscape of home services. A year into my career.

 It's hard to believe that a year has passed since I embarked on my professional journey after graduating. Within this short span, I've had the privilege of working in two dynamic companies, Equinox Labs and Urban Company, where I've gained invaluable experience and insights into the world of business development.

My first stint at Equinox Labs as a Business Development Executive provided me with a solid foundation in sales. From prospecting to lead generation and closing deals, I learned the ropes of driving business growth through strategic initiatives. Every interaction with potential clients was an opportunity to hone my communication skills and adaptability, crucial assets in the competitive realm of sales.

Transitioning to Urban Company as a Business Development Associate marked a new chapter in my career, delving into supply strategy and operations. Here, I encountered a multifaceted role that challenged me to think creatively and strategically. From retaining existing partners to onboarding new ones, I became adept at managing relationships and driving collaborative efforts towards shared goals.

One of the most rewarding aspects of my role at Urban Company was organizing an event to promote our company partners. Bringing together 150 partners out of a pool of 1300, the event served as a testament to the power of community and collaboration. It was a humbling experience to witness firsthand the impact of recognizing and celebrating the contributions of our partners.

Additionally, resolving issues such as clearing old loans and unblocking partner IDs underscored the importance of effective problem-solving and attention to detail. These challenges reinforced the notion that success in business development is often contingent upon addressing obstacles head-on and finding innovative solutions.

Moreover, ensuring that all partners were on subscriptions exemplified the significance of proactive customer service and nurturing long-term relationships. By anticipating their needs and providing value-added services, we fostered a sense of loyalty and commitment among our partners.

Reflecting on my journey thus far, I am grateful for the opportunities and experiences that have shaped my growth as a professional. Each role has imparted invaluable lessons and skills that continue to serve me well in my career. As I look ahead, I am excited to further refine my expertise in business development and contribute to the success of future endeavors.
